If you’ve enjoyed an older edition of T.S. Eliot’s “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats” (yes, “Cats” on Broadway is based on these poems!) then you may also have seen Edward Gorey’s unmatched illustrations. Gorey may have been the first well-known Steampunk/Goth artist; it’s arguable, given his odd but compelling style. However, he also was One of Us – a cat lover.
His diaries contained multiple references to his feline friends, and a cousin has commented Gorey “… liked cats more than people. He considered them his family.”
Um – this ‘family’ attitude is considered eccentric how?
