The Fort Wayne newspaper group recently reported on some great volunteers building small shelters for outdoor cats. (Not incidentally, and also something to think about, the area refers to their feral cats as “community cats.”) All you need for a shelter is a storage container with lid, some Styrofoam to line the sides (a leftover cooler from summer will work nicely) and a little straw to line the bottom of the container. Yowser! Instant cat shelter! Check them out here:

Also, hello and a warm welcome – with purrs – to Marc Andre, Jade Hoffman and Blookup. Thanks for reading and following us!
Community cats. Much nicer sounding than feral.

Totally agree! Maybe it’ll inspire some other towns and cities to spay-neuter-release instead of ‘humanely’ killing them.
Apologies in advance for the editorial rant which follows: There’s quite a concerted effort over in Australia, New Zealand and neighboring islands to eliminate any feral cat. And their methods are not what I would describe as ‘humane.’ Causing them to poison themselves while grooming is just wrong. Authorities want to kill 2 million cats by 2020. What are they going to do when the rat population swarms everywhere? Anyone remember reading about Europe’s ‘Black Plague’ ?
